Elderberry Elixir

It's that time of year when we could all do with a herbal elixir that will boost our immunity and wards off any unwelcome guests. Try this one for size.

Spiced Apple and Elderberry Elixir


You can add whatever you want really, replace any of the main ingredients with what you have available.


You will need roughly

1 x Cinnamon stick

1 x Star Anise

4 x Cloves

Orange and lemon peel

Tablespoon of citric acid (optional)

2 cups Pressed Apple Juice

2 cups of dried elderberry soaked in apple juice to dehydrate (if fresh aren't available. You can use blackcurrant instead of elderberry)


Lightly simmer the above ingredients, then after 15 minutes or so take of heat. Mix in

raw honey, I use roughly two tablespoons.


Pour into a sterilised glass jar/bottle and store in the fridge.


1 tablespoon daily of Elderberry syrup is perfect to help support your immunity throughout the colder months. You can add or omit any item to suit taste.
